Welcome to the Bilezikian Web site. Over time, I'm hoping that this thing will grow and will eventually become a gathering place for Bilezikians worldwide. It's a place where we can learn about each other and maintain a level of contact that has been lost through the decades.
Armenians whose land had been occupied by the Turks were forced to turkefy their names. We don't know what our original name was. We ended up with our present name derived from the Turkish bilezik which means bracelet; "of the bracelet makers" for bilezikdji plus the Armenian ian ending. Before our relatives began trickling in America in the early twentieth century, the name was Bilezikdjian. It was probably simplified to Bilezikjian and Bilezikian at Ellis Island.
